Boomer & Rocky were born at C-Water Kennels in Oceanside, CA in October 1993. Boomer was the "pick" of the litter; Rocky was the "runt."
They joined our family at Thanksgiving and quickly changed our lives for the better. They were full of personality, energy and fun. They learned to swim; they went to agility classes. They were always together and ready for anything we wanted to do.
Rocky was the alpha even though Boomer outweighed him by 20 pounds! On the rare occasion that Boom would challenge Rock's "top dog" status, Rocky would quickly put him in his place.
While Rocky was all dog, Boomer was probably 25% dog and 75% human.
As a dabbler in website design, I originally put "Boomer & Rocky's Website" together in 1995 just as an internet learning experience. But, it slowly grew into an information source about the Portuguese Water Dog breed as more and more people visited the site and e-mailed questions.
Sadly, both our boys were not to live full lives. Boomer died in April 2003 from cancerous lung tumors. Unbelieveably, Rocky passed away just five weeks later in May 2003. He had a tumor on his heart.
The sadness of losing them both at such an early age - they were only nine - was hard to bear, but we had become such fans and advocates of this wonderful breed, we knew another Portie would be in our future.
WIZARD joined us in August of 2003. He's got a lot to live up to, but we're not worried.
You'll find lots of pictures of Boomer & Rocky on this site. They were wonderful dogs and gave us so much joy, asking only for love in return - and an occasional cookie. So, as
WIZARD learns the ropes, I know B&R are watching - in between naps.
